Sportsmanship in Intense Competition

When Sabakiball was created over ten years ago, Founder Michael Cerpok, looked around at the current sports available to youths and adults, and noticed that participants in any physical activity had a choice of EITHER fun (recreational sports) OR competition (leagues). Why is this an EITHER/OR situation? Sabakiball was created under the ideal that competition IS fun. What makes this possible? SPORTSMANSHIP!

Sportsmanship is at the heart of Sabakiball. In fact, in the Scottsdale (AZ) league they give out a sportsmanship award at the end of each season. Among awards for MVP, high scorer and best goals-against-average, the Sportsmanship Award is the most honorable. Much like in hockey where the players sometimes pummel each other on the ice then shake hands in the end, Sabakiball league games get quite intense (no pummeling though - it is non-contact) especially when the players are very good athletes and are adept at the rules of play. Yet during this intense competition there is always sportsmanship steering the play.

Sabakiball's vision for all leagues and organized games is that all players feel that when they come onto the field there is no holding back from their athletic abilities and their competitive natures because competition can be a healthy, fun and growth-oriented outlet for youths and adults alike.

If you have played Sabakiball and experienced its vision of Sportsmanship in Intense Competition we invite your comments on this blog, and would love to see you on the field. If you have not played Sabakiball yet but value fun AND competitive play of a non-stop sport, contact us through social media or our website to inquire where you can play SABAKIBALL in your area. What are your thoughts on SPORTSMANSHIP in sports?

Through my over 10 years of Sabakiball play. Coming from a variety of sports played. Sabakiball fosters a type of sportsmanship unlike any other. Some of my fiercest rivals on the field have become some of my best friends off the field! As much intensity as the competition is on the field the sportsmanship is just as apparent. Every play there’s kudos and constructive feedback to help foster and grow every player from rookies to seasoned veterans! Sabakiball is unlike any other sport!

My students are leaving the gym sweaty and happy, wanting to play next class.  Several have said it's the best game they ever played."
